Bonus – Ingress Crossing

Bonus – Ingress Crossing published on 3 Comments on Bonus – Ingress Crossing

Hi guys, I really hope you’re staying healthy.

This is probably not a big shock that I’m putting up a filler today. At work we’ve been ordered to work from home for the last two weeks, and my area has essentially been shut down because of the virus happening.

I’m currently perfectly healthy and fine, but- ironically- working from home has taken up more of my free time than going to an office every day. I don’t plan for regular breaks, I just need to figure out what works for me!

To destress I’ve been playing a lot of Animal Crossing, so here’s Toivo, Rosemary, and Rocky as animals! I guess Rocky just got larger, actually.

Take care of yourselves! And I’ll see you next week.

Chapter 4 Bonus

Hey ya’ll. Here’s a little backstory/worldbuilding before chapter 4 gets kicked off. Here’s the article, in case you can’t read it:

A Retrospective on Beasts, 50 Years After Their Origin
By Todric Anthony, Junior Reporter

When the corrupted Beasts first appeared during the war 50 years ago, Enkester was one of the few cities in the area to remain relatively unravaged.

It wasn’t luck, but divine guidance that helped us to survive. The leaders of the temple at the time were guided by Enfyn and knew the Beasts would eventually reach Enkester. They instructed us to construct the walls that protected the city then and continue to rebuff threats now. Because Enfyn’s Heart protected our city, we were able to take in a large number of refugees.

One of the veterans who protected the world then protects our relic now, guarding Enfyn’s Heart at the temple. Dia is getting old, but she still remembers her youth clearly and her handshakes are stronger than those of men half her age.

“Yeah, we kicked their [behinds],” she said with her customary exuberance when asked about Beasts, punching her own hand as a demonstration of the behind-kicking. “It’s all nice and peaceful here, but 50 years ago we were fighting for our lives every day. Kinda miss it sometimes. The temple gets boring.”

We do try to keep it peaceful in Enkester, but the world around us isn’t always safe. In the 50 years since the war, we’ve reduced the overall number of Beasts, but they’re still around.

A word of warning, if anyone feels tempted to recreate a more exciting era: Beasts are dangerous enough that only the most seasoned adventurers should attempt to track and hunt them.

“We all almost died a bunch of times,” Dia explained. “Our cleric was a real grump about having to heal us so much. Especially because our wizard kept running right into the middle of fights.” She laughed. “He’d always yell you’re supposed to be a ranged fighter as he charged in after the guy took a hit.”

What did she know about the origin of the Beasts? The rumors about her past suggest that her and her group of adventurers were the ones to actually take down the source, ending the war.

She paused, looking uncharacteristically reflective before answering.
