In the Lore on Pseudodragons, it is said that ‘Pseudodragons choose their Wizards, not the other way around’.

Here we have evidence that a Pseudodragon’s bond to a guardian Wizard extends to the Wizard’s friends and allies. In addition, Pseudodragons sometimes yield valuable scales quite willingly to help their guardian Wizards cast spells that are not otherwise possible.

This behaviour is likelier when it is closer to shedding season, as the yielding of newer scales is a more painful process. Old, shed scales might not have as much magic as newer ones; however they are more willingly yielded and in shedding season are of greater quantity.

I remember many fine adventures with a party including a Pseudodragon. The guardian Wizard often did not need to ask for gifts as he had a number of shed skins in his pack. Some spells are, however, only possible with newer scales.

The gaining of a new-grown scale, however, usually must be repaid – I recall many a session of bargaining for a more powerful teleportation spell, a more powerful magical Compass – he never tried to deny what was asked in return, and the bond between guardian Wizard and Pseudodragon was as strong as the finest enchanted steel – each would be willing lay down their life to protect the other…
